Walter Andrew Snidow and son John Chapman

Walter Snidow was born in Pembroke, VA, the eldest son of Major John Chapman Snidow and Annie Hoge, James Fulton Hoge’s daughter. He was married twice, first to Annie Worley, who gave birth to three sons, John Chapman (pictured), Walter Marshal, and Guy Snidow. His second wife was Carrie Roob.

Walter is connected to Col. Christian Snidow, a Revolutionary soldier, whose wife, Mary Burke, is the sister of Sir Edmund Burke, the noted statesman. He descended from some of the oldest, most distinguished Southwest Virginia families.

He had a strong personality that attracted many friends who knew him for his kindness to the less fortunate. Prior to his death, he assured his wife he was ready for a change, burdened by paralysis.
